Art direction

Art direction is how I hold the idea, the imagery and the graphics together, from concept to print.

I start from your brief and ask myself what I can add: the twist that takes the project one step further. Then I oversee the shoot, the campaign and the pages, and the person who answers your first email is the same one who hands over the files. I work from Cecina, in Tuscany, and I can run projects remotely as well.

Drawing out the idea

Magazines, campaigns, launches and concepts: projects I directed from start to finish, from the name to the shoot.

Questions about art direction

  • What does an art director do?

They decide how a project looks, and hold all the pieces together so they say the same thing: the idea, the photos, the typefaces, the colours. For STIWEG I started with the name and finished with the hang tag, taking in the garments, the shoot, the campaign and the magazine.

  • What’s the difference between an art director and a graphic designer?

The graphic designer designs the pieces, the art director sets the direction that holds them together. I do both: for F.U.C.K. Magazine I handle the art direction and lay out every issue, covers included.

  • Do you direct the photo shoot as well?

Yes. For STIWEG I directed the shoot across two sets, on the Norwegian tundra and in the studio. For Etruria Wellness I directed and shot the photos over two days, in the studio and on the beach.

  • Do you work with agencies or directly with brands?

Both. With FUL Agency I worked on DEL, Hotel Atlantico and Essere Bio, with PLUS+ on the graphics for ORObyRUFFINO at Milan Design Week, and with Pac Team Europa on the retail displays.

  • Where do you work?

I work from Cecina, in Tuscany, mostly between Tuscany and Milan, but also remotely with clients in other cities.

(Got a launch that needs to get noticed?)

I take it from the idea to the street: the name, the product, the campaign and the activation.
