Evergreen is a concept of mine: a collaboration between Vitra and Bottega Veneta that never happened, with Vitra design classics in Bottega green. I came up with the idea and the name, then the renders, campaign, packaging and activations.
Two brands you recognise without a logo
Vitra and Bottega Veneta have never worked together, but they have one thing in common: they don’t need a logo. You recognise a Vitra piece by its shape; Bottega Veneta swapped the monogram for a material: the intrecciato weave.
Each had already stepped into the other’s territory: Bottega Veneta with Cassina, Zanotta and Gaetano Pesce, Vitra with Virgil Abloh. Evergreen puts them in the same collection, and the strapline says it in four words: Some designs are evergreen.
Two registers: colour and intrecciato
The collection works on two levels, and every render is built to show one of them.
- 01ColourVitra pieces in solid green: the shape stays the same, only the colour changes.
- 02IntrecciatoThe green comes through the Bottega Veneta weave: colour and material in one.
On the intrecciato pieces the weave follows the curves and catches the light differently at every point. It had to make you want to touch it, even on a screen.
At the Salone, the Vitra Campus and online
To launch it, I came up with four activations, each with its own name.
- 01The Green RoomA room lined in green intrecciato with the collection inside, designed for the Salone del Mobile.
- 02Evergreen ArchiveAt the Vitra Campus the green pieces sit among the originals in the Schaudepot, with no captions. A QR code on the wall reveals the collaboration.
- 03The Evergreen DropTwelve Vitra miniatures in Bottega green and 999 numbered box sets, designed for bottegaveneta.com and vitra.com.
- 04The CertificationThe press kit: a miniature, a sample of woven leather, a card with the strapline and an invitation.
The classics you wear and the ones you sit on
Bottega Evergreen is the fashion side of the collection: Bottega Veneta’s heritage pieces, already evergreen in the wardrobe, alongside Vitra seating in green. Two kinds of classic in the same shot.
